NAVAL POLICY
REAR-ADMIRAL BLAKE’S ADVICE AUCKLAND, Feb. 25. “The New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy is run probably on more economical lines than any other Dominion service existing,” said Rear-Ad-miral Blake, Com modore-in-Command « of the Division, at a farewell smoke concert given by the AAliite Ensign ■ Club. ‘"‘Out here-,” lie said. “I have had three rather peculiar tasks to perform, Which liiade life quite jjlCasaht, uhtil it has Colne to the lust one. I uiu Captain of tliy own ship, which {m vary satisfactory, and ! am Commodore commanding the New Zealand station, which is also highly satisfactory, but I am also naval adviser to the New Zealand .Government, and the first naval member *of the Naval Board, which is not quite so satisfactory. However, as captain of my ship, I can look after the interests of my messmates; as Commodore of the New Zealand station, J can make certain recommendations, and, as firstnaval member of the Naval Board, Ij can then say I do not approve of them at all. From experience, I suggest that you should have no fixed convic- I tions but, when the occasion arises, as it were, ‘trim you sails to the wind.’ ’ ,
