INTEREST DEFAULT. LANG’S MESSAGE TO LYONS. (Australian Press Association.) (Received this day at 1.30 p.in.) SYDNEY, Feb. 25. Mr Lang despatched another telegram to Mr Lyons relating to the payment of New South Wales’ interest overseas. The Premier alleged in his telegram that it was necessary to exercise caution when dealing with, the Prime Minister. Mr Lang further alleged that the latest reason given by Mr Lyons for refusing to consider the request ol New South Wales for Treasury Bills for half a million pounds, were not those stated by the Assistant Treasurer. Mr Stanley Bruce, in enunciating the Commonwealth’s policy, when dealing with requests of Western Australia and Tasmania for accommodation.
DEFEAT OF GOVERNMENT. OPPOSITION TO AMENDMENT. (Received this day at 11.15 a.m.) (Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, Feb. 25. The Government was defeated in the Council on the first of its vital amendments to the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Bill. A motion for the reinsertion in the measure of the principle of a sale commissioner was rejected by 48 votes to 38. The Federal Labour group voted against the Government Bill which now provides for a bench of three judges, as recommended by the select committee.
