EDENDALE BANK ROBBERY

AND OTHER CHARGE'S

(By Telegraph—Ber Press Association) INVRCARGILL, Feb. 19. Maurice Patrick Dully and William Leonard Brewer were sentenced by Mi 'Justice Kennedy to five and a halt years’ hard labour for breaking and entering 'the dwelling of the Bank manager at Edendale. His Honour said they entered the house masked, with a loaded rifle and sandbag, and both .the manager and his wile were attacked. Duffy had been pursuing a criminal course for some time, and the .attack was very violent. Brewer carried a loaded rifle with which he threatened the manager and his vile, and attempted to ga'g her. His Honour said his 'past record showed this crime did not s tand alone. Beth sentences are concurrent with other sentences.

Duffy and Thomas O’Conor, for breaking and entering the Majestic Theatre, were sentenced, the former to eighteen months’ hard, and the latter to eighteen months’ reformative.

Duffy was also sentenced to eighteen months for breaking and entering Regent Theatre, and on four charges of receiving stolen property to one years hard, all to be concurrent.

William Leonard Brewer for theft or the Ocean Beach payroll of £827, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to two years’ hard. Thom a s Harold Brewer for receiving money knowing it to be dishonestly obtained, was ordered two years’ reformative.
