HOLMDALE UNDAMAGED.

WELLINGTON, February 18

The coastal steamer “Holmdale;” which was ashore for seven hours on the beach at Cnstlecliff, near Wanganui oil Tuesday, arrived at Wellington tihs morning from Picton, mid she was inspected for damage by a diver., It was reported that the vessel was not damaged through going on the beach.

DUNEDIN COUNCIL BY-ELECTION

( DUNEDIN, February lfs. A City Council by-election was held to-day for a seat rendered vacant by the death of Mr C. 11. Hayward. Four candidates went to the poll, the following being the result: W. A. Scott (ex-Councillor) 4012; M. Silverstone (Labour) 3898; H. A. Hamer 32b; C. M. .Moss 203. The total number of electors .on the roll is 32,.541.
