DISAPPOINTED BAND
PECULIAR POSITION ARISES. ART UNION FUNDS DIVERTED. WANGANUI, February 16.
A peculiar position has arisen between the Queen Alexander Band and the citizens’ committee of the hand, in connection with the refusal ot the committee to allow the hand to go to the Dominion contest.
The hand members have understood all along, until* the other day, that the trip was assured, and they were very energetically practising. The hand "as to share in the proceeds of an art union which would return them £l3O. The expenses incurred in attending the contest would aggregate £106: A “bomb” exploded when the citizens’ committee retained the £l3O, and in-' formed the hand that it- could not go to the contest and that the money would he allocated to liquidating the hand’s debts, which are approximately £2OO. Most of it iso wed to two creditors, who are not pressing for payment. The ha'nd"’now’ 'threatens'' to rfistgn iit ; a body, with a view to re-forming and getting rid of the present citizens’ committee. A lively meeting is expected this evening.
