An attempt to assassinate H. Quiton, district magistrate at Hawarth, a Calcutta suburb, was made when a bomb was thrown in his private saloon on a train. The carriage was damaged but Quinton was unhurt. No arrests were made.

Police Sergeant Bourne was beaten senseless with iron rods by suspected terrorists. He was taken to a hospital in a precarious condition. The Bombay Government lias ordered the forfeiture of over £3OOO lying in two Indian banks to the credit of four prominent Congressmen, as the Government is satisfied the funds were-intended for the purposes of the Bombay Congress Committee. Police Superintendent B. J. Shooter, who was transferred 'from Chittagong to Calcutta, following on a Government inquiry into the Hindu-Moslem riots at Chittagong last year, has bee,, found shot dead at the United Service Club, with a revolver by his side. A'young revolutionary, believed to be named"Vaslipal, has been arrested at Allahbad m a house occupied by a European Woman Theaoplnst, who married an Indian. When the door was opened to admit a police party, a revolutionary suspect fired six shots, but the police were not injured. The man and woman were also arrested. A large quantity of arms and annminj cion was seized.
