WOMAN’S FLIGHT
LADY CHAYTOR ON AUSTRALIAN PROJECT. CONNECTION WITH N.Z. LONDON, Jan. 16. “ What does your husband think about it all?” Lady Clmytor was asked, on the subject of her projected flight to Australia. “Oh! He doesn’t know anything at all about it yet; but, of course, lie "ill be told in plenty ol time,” her ladyship replied. Lady Ohaytor is charming, petite, blonde, and bashful, yet intensely animated. “ Well, I am going in a Gipsy Moth No. 1 machine piloted by Mr It. T. Richards. I shall have my license next week, and will start in March.” Her husband is Sir Edmund Charter, sixth baronet, who was horn in 187 G and who is a relative of the New Zealand family which supplied Major-Gen-eral Sir Edward Chaytor. the brilliant Light Horse leader of the Palestine campaign.
Lady Chaytor, bubbling with enthusiasm, continued :—‘“V itton Castle (Sir Edmund’s family seat) is in the Scottish corner of Durham, It was built in 1143, has 30 bedrooms, and a ‘To let’ notice in front, f am going to Australia. to lecture on fashions, so I can take that notice down, “[ am not trying to break any records, but f will certainly get there. T must be in England again in June, because I am then presenting my daughter at Court. Oh, yes; lam flying back!
I saw the aviator Mr C. W. A Scott, and asked him about the trip. He was most charming, and gave me full details and directions for the whole of the route. I think lie is going out again himself, because he is restless to achieve another record.”
