ASSAULT CHARGE
MAN’S PASSIONATE OUTBURST. WJIAN GAR El, Jan. 21. “It is a case of the passionate lover seeing someone else trespassing oil his sacred, ground,” said counsel lor Howland Edward McLean, who appeared at ilio Whangarei Magistrate’s Court on a charge of assaulting John Markham by striking him on the face.
Senior-Sergeant Powell said complainant took out a ,young lady with whom the accused had been keeping company. Following some conversation accused struck complainant oil the mouth. Accused had no reason to think that the young lady was his exclusive property. Counsel said that accused was sorry for his action and wished to apologise to the other mail. Accused was upset when he saw the other man in the lady’s company and one word had led to the incident. He had had his lesson, and counsel suggested that he had his punishment too. The case could he met by a, conviction and discharge. The magistrate imposed a fine of £l, An application for supression of the name was refused
