VALUE OF a SHILLING
(Australian Press Association.)
(Received 8.40 a.in.) MELBOURNE, July 22
Federal Treasury officials arc punsded by tht* extraordinary demand of the past two months for silver coin.' As the stocks, of silver coin held in the vaults aro practically exhausted, they are inclined to think that owing to the contraction dn the use of cheques more silver has been employed as a medium of exchange. Another is that people are hoarding silver, fearing a financial collapse. Officials warn such people that this is hardly worth while, as the real value of a shilling lies now only two pence half penny.
