CRICKET

THE NEW ZEALAND TOUR.

MATCH AGAINST SCOTLAND.

(Special to Press Association)

(Received this day at 9.25 a.m) GLASGOW, July 16

New Zealand cricketers continued against Scotland in fine weather. The wicket was faster but inclined to favour the bowlers. Allcott and Vivian struck form early, combined with accurate length and spin and the remaining live wicLets fell in an hour for 45 runs.

The New Zealand showed considerable improvement. J.n the second innings Lowry altereu the batting order. The success of Talbot and Matheson ■were the feature of the day’s play. Talbot batted in his best form, never reckless,,' but treated the bowling on 'its merits. His shoes in front of the wicket were executed with freedom ana and power. Matheson also played a batsman’s innings. He drove powerfully and he gave only one chance. Even allowing for. the mediocre nature of the Scottish attack, the display of the batsmen generally was at least proof positive of the batting strength at Lowry’s disposal. James and Vivian batted brightly. Mills also was attractive towards ■the close. Matheson batted for 147 minutes and hit Seven fours. Talbot was In 110 •.minutes and hit six fburs and one: six. The Scottish fielding was brilliant and checked tlifi, Scoring rate considerably,. NEW. ZEALAND First Tunings. Mills c Black; b Watson 6 Dempster c Simpson, b Anderson 24 Kerr st. TEAM FROM OVERSEAS. PLANS FOR NEXT SEASON. WELLINGTON, July 15. There is a strong feeling among members of the Wellington Cricket Association that every effort should be made by the New Zealand Council to arrange for a team from overseas to 'visit New Zealand next season and that plans should be mapped out without delay. The extreme desirability of obtaining more international cricket was emphasised at a meeting of the Management Committee last night. Regarding Plunket Shield umpires the meeting decided to inform the council thht, as the Wellington Association’s policy always had been in favour of the council appointing umpires the suggested'change was favoured.
