RADIO PROGRAMME

IYA will, this evening, be broadcasting a debate between the visiting American debaters and a team representing the Auckland University. The subject is: “That 'lmperialism is a Menace.’’ 2YA will broadcast its weekly International Programme, the lecturer, being ■Dr Guy H. Scholefield. ,0 m, Miss Maisie Oitey and her Orp,beans, an excellent orchestral combination, will give their first radio performance at 3YA this evening. They will present a very attractive miscellaneous programme. Miss Kathleen Bond i(eontralto) will be singing, her numbers being “Arise 0 Sun,’’ “Ships that Pass in the Night” and “Abide with Me.” Mr Robert Lake, the other vocalist, will sing “The Bandolero,” “Tune of the Open Country” and “.Aylesbury Ducks.” Two ’cello solos will be played bv Mr Harold Beck anti trios by the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio. •A lecture-recital to be given under the auspices of the Society of Professional ■Musicians of Otago by Mr Alfred Walmsley (tenor) and Mr F. Watt (bass) will be an outstanding portion of '4YA’s ■ programme. The subject will be “UltraModern British Songs.” On the supplementary programme will be Miss Mary ’Pratt (contralto), Miss Aileen Young t(soprano) and Mr F. Watt, whose bass solos will be “The 'Two Grenadiers’’ and >‘l)own Among the Dead Men.” Also on the programme will be Mr Max Scherck (pianist) and an instrumental tri6.
THURSDAY, JULY 16!h. . As this is “Country Week,” in con--11. c.tion with the .Auckland Winter Exhibition, IYA has arranged a special old-time concert for this evening. Th:s will be given by the IYA Broadcasting Choir and the Orchestral Octet, from 9.30 p.lll. to 11 p.in. there will be a special old-time dance programme. A ihree-act com-dv, "Sweet Lavender,” by Mr A. /W. Pinero, will be presented from 2VA Studio. The comedy will be produced under the direction of Mr Clement, May, who will also play tlv j leading role of Richard Phenyl, barrister. The cast of eleven is well chosen ! and the comedy should prove most en- j tertaining. ’ 3 \ rec'ial of "Songs off the Beaten Track” will be a feature of 3Y.Vs programme. This recital will bo given by Mr W. H. Dixon, •L.R.A.M., A.R.C/M. iHe will illustrate his lecture by singing three songs : “Water Boy,” "Five Little Japanese Songs,” “Old Man Might Have Been.” Other attractive features of tin: programme will be two playlets, -Miss nare Hooper and Mr H.
