MILLERTON DISTRESS. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) , NELSON, June 18. In furtherance of the tlfreat made by the parents at Millerton that their children would not. attend the school unless a free meal is provided for them, the Headmaster yf the School, notified the Nelson Education Board to-day that only sixty-five pupils out of two hundred attended the school this morning. SOLDIER'S PENSIONS. WELLINGTON. June 19. While 'the ten per cent, cut is to he applied to returned soldier’s economic pensions, it is stated, on the authority of the Commissioner of Pensions that the maximum reduction cannot exceed three shillings per week, as it only applies to the soldier’s economic pension and does not touch the economic pension of his wife and children. GISBORNE ISOLATED. GISBORNE, June 19. 'The blockage on tho north road continues. and to-day Gisborne was without mails from the south, owing to slips on the Napier road at- Devil’s Elbow, holding up traffic.
