SHEEP WORRIERS
DOGS CAUGHT IN THE ACT. ■ WHANGAREI, Jdne 16. Arr exciting chase yesterday morning resulted in two dogs, which are stated to have been worrying sheep, paying the price for their misdeeds by death. /From the Grotto Mr S. Watts' heard furious barking, and saw the dogs chasing Mr,B. K. Plaisted s slnfep, which were grazing on the Harbour Bird’s property. Pldisted, S. Watt, S. Bignell and K. H Allan, armed with guns, set out to get the marauders. One dog was promptly given the happy dispatch, and flying shot just reached . the,..other miscreant, which escaped;, although slightly wounded. However, Mr Plaisted had recognised the dog. It took to the broken country at the back of Parahaki, and, had it not been for Mr Plaisted’s stock dog,/it would have probably won its freedom. After two hours’ scrambling through bush and tea-tree, the expedition was successful in making a kill. Before the interruption yesterday, the dogs are understood to have destroyed fqiir sheep, and on a previous occasion recently Mr Plaisted lost, ten through a-, similar cause. The owners of the dogs were • interviewed this morning, and it is understood a satisfactory settlement was arrived at.
