Percival John Scuntlebiiry, a solicitor. aged 45, lias been arrested otr a charge of making a laise document in connection with his trust acfifmnt. He was remanded to July "2iitU' on ban, and to report to tlie police daily. FORGING A TELEGRAM. Hi.-4.dILTON, June 18. At the Supreme Court. Hamilton, today, ihomas Reginald' Green, 49, a laboi.-.-er, diarg.d with forging a telegram at Mimtly, receive cl six months’ imprisonment. The evidence showed Green forged a telegram, addressing it in the name, of Ins father, to Airs A. W. Beale, Carterton, requesting that il-5 be .sent- to- lorn urgently at Hamilton. GUARD KILLED. WANGANUI, June 13. Guard P, Matthews, for eight years a resident of .Marton, fell off the train at Baker's crossing and died almost immediately. The train bringing Auckland Limited passengers from Marton had to be divided to take the hill, and during these operations the accident occurred. SUDDEN DEATH. ■WANGANUI, ■\7unt' 18; A, 8. Campbell, recently appointed act, ing Traffic Manager at Wanganui, died suddenly at a private hospital this morning. He was well known in- the service., ir and was recently Station-master at Auckland. >. !
' UNEMPLOYED RELIEF. HAWERA, June 18. A meeting oi about four hundred town and country residents of .unemployed was held last night to devise means of providing subsistence for unemployed until the Government resumes. Relief measures of over £1(10 was subscribed. Numerous offers of regular supplies of provisions were received, including meat and vegetables from farmers for unemployed in Hawera, who with their wives and children total over 800 needy’ persons. The meeting resolutioned urging the Government to plan? all old people on a pension thus relieving the labour market, money to be found bv a threepence in the £ tax on all wages; also that two weeks holiday for workers be made compulsory. ■
A THREATENING LETTER. TIM.ARU, June 18. At the Magistrate's. Court, .. John William Roudhill, , v poultry farmer of Fairlio, was committed for trial on a cnarge of haying sent a ,threatening letter to John. Kennedy, Chairman ot South Canterbury Power Board, the offending words being “we pledge ourselves to see that you both are removed out'of harm’s way either by knife or Mexican medicine."
