An Edmonton message states that following alleged threats by the unemployed, who allegedly were undei Communist influence, to seize civic buildings, and loot stores, Premier Brownlee called lor a militia detachment. A force of the Stratcona Horse were rushed in a special train from Calgary, and they are being held in the barracks at Calgary. A score of the unemployed invaded restaurants, refusing to pay after securing meals. They were arrested, but a. mob stormed the police headquarters in an attempt to release them. The crowd, however, were dispersed by repeated police charges. At Druinheller. in Alberta province, the whole Town Council were arrested on the complaint of the men there out of work, and are charged with failing to provide for the unemployed, as provided by the Criminal Code o. Canada. The law stipulates that it shall he the duty of the civic bodies “to make suitable provision for the poor and destitute.”
