Reports from Seville state that the whole city is in the hands nl rebellious crowds. The cathedral, the second largest in the world, is ablaze. The mob raided the Carmelite Church at Seville and destroyed the world famous statue of the Virgin of Carmel ana then made a lion-file ol vestments and chalices in the public square. They set fire to a Convent. According to the Madrid newspaper “El Liberal” the Convents were set afire from inside, monks and nuns previously removing all valuables. The newspaper attributes the burning to a Monarchist plan and discredit the Republic destruction of Monastic property throughout Spain. Socialists and National Federation both condemn the outbursts and order workers to resume their peaceful vocations. Meanwhile the Monarchist newspapers A.B.C. and El de. Bate were seized.
