MURDER IN FRANCE . One reason for the 'frequency of murders in France is stated by a correspondent of “’tile Times” to be the ease with which firarms are obtainable Almost every peasant has a gun and although permits have to be obtained for the possession of revolvers, no restriction is placed on the purchase of firearms and ammunition. Die great majority of murders are comnfitted with firearms. The impression conveyed by tho cabled reports that murders are usually the result of jealousy is not borne out by the facts. By Tar tve greatest number of such crimes can he attributed directly to family quarrels, and crimes arising from jealousy constitute only a small percentage of the total. The record of France not quite as bad as that of some American •cities, but it is said to be quite the worst in Europe.
