RADIO PROGRAMME

(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) TUESDAY, MARCH 24th. Mr Barry Coney, the well known Auckland baritone, presenting solos by Bach, Bralmis and Mozart, will be featured on lYA’s programme this evening. Also singing will be Mi® Omenda Weir (soprano). Mr A. B. Chappell will give his weekly Topical Talk and the Studio Octet, under Mr Harold Baxter will provide an orchestral programme. Miss Gw lady s Ewardes, the Australian woprano, will sing four line songs at 2YA: “Mifamvy,” “Mighty Like a Rose,” “Coming Home” and “Valley of Laughter.” Mr Stewart Nelson’s tenor solos will include “At Dawning,” “Down 4,he Vale” and “In an Old Fashioned Town.” Two songs by Romberg and two by the well known Maori composer, Erinia Moewa Kaihau, of Auckland, will be sung by Mr L. Bent. The Sketchers will present “The bast Post.” Mr \V. Haydock will play as a violin solo “Legende” by Wieniawski, and a programme of popular music will be given by the Salon Orchestra under Mr M. T. Dixon. To mark the anniversary of the death of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow the poet, a brief recital of his life and work will be presented bv Mr Angus Oorrie at 4YA. The St. Ivilda Band is to present the instrumental section of the evening’s programme. The vocalists will be Miss Constance Poole (contralto), Miss Rita Holmes (soprano) and Mr Bert Rawlinson (baritone) . Silent day at 3YA. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25th, A concert to be given by the Wliangarei Municipal silver Band under Mr A. Dobson, will be relayed from \\ hangarei to IYA this evening. An •excellent programme has been arranged.

Tile weekly programme of recorded items from overseas broadcast entertainments will lie heard from 2YA. Given in 4YA Studio this evening and also broadcast by 3YA, will be a dialogue for the benefit ol tanners. 'l'lio speakers will be Messrs R. B. Tennant and Mr L. W. McCaskiil, and the subject will be “Farmer Brown talks about rotational grazing and criticises the system.”

Mr Sydney Williamson’s newly formed male voice quartet, Miss Phyllis Kinniburgb (pianist©) and the Marking Men’s Club Orchestra will provide JYA’s programme. The (piartet comprises Messrs C. R. Williamson, Sydney Williamson, 4. 4. Hall and Leslie Fleming. Miss Kinnihurgh is a pianist© who has played with distinction at Competitions. The Working Men’s Club Orchestra, under the baton of Mr A. G. Heath, i.s an excellent combination composed mainly of professional musicians. As a piccolo solo, with orchestral accompaniment, Godfrey’s “Yankee Doodle” will be played by Mr T. Amos. [ n “Alpine Echoes,” th© cornel soloists will be Messrs Fred Fox and Fred Chapman. 4YA is featuring a special “Beethoven Evening.” Mr Max Scberek, President of tile Society of Professional Musicians of Otago, will give a lecturette on the famous composer. The vocal portion of the musical programme will be provided by th<« Harmonists’ Sextet, consisting of Miss Mae Afatheson (soprano), Miss Evelyn Shepard (soprano), Miss Margaret Green (’contralto), Mr H. A. Johnston Honor), Mr S. Falconer (baritone) and Mr V . B. Lambert (bass), with Mrs C. Drake as pianistc. The instrumental portion of the concert will be provided by Mr Max Scberek and bis string sextet. To-morrow afternoon, the borne science talk from IYA. 2YA and 3YA, preoared by the Home Science Extension Department of Otago University, will be on “Vegetable Preserving.”
