TERRIBLE TRAGEDY
TEN CHILDREN LOST, (United Preso Association—By Electric Telegraph.— Copyright.) NEW YORK, March 22. A message from . Holderness ' (New Hamphire) states that the residents of Central New Hampshire were shocked when fire destroyed the home oi Mr and Mrs Louis Avery, killing seven of their sixteen children, P.M fatally injuring three , others. Tim family was one of the largest in the State, and was desperately poor. They lived in a little house in which they had been making a lengthy struggle ngainst poverty, while refusing the aid of neighbours, The fire occurred on a bitter*, cold night. The parents, and th e surviving children rushed out of the house thinly clad into deep snow. Then the parents returned to the burning building and tried to rescue other.children.
Mrs Avery succeeded in saving an infant daughter. The, father tried to save another child in’ tho same room, but was driven out 1 by the flames. Six of the children were trapped in a loft, and they fell downstairs into the flames.
The survivors waited till the home was destroyed. .Then they walked through the snow in a biting wind to the nearest neighbour, some distance away, where they were found to fie suffering severely from exposure and shock.
