FORGERY CHARGE, [By Telegraph, Per Press Association.) A'UX<v!LANT). March 23. Wilburn .lames Finch, 23, a motor driver pleaded guilty to charges of forging a name to an application to employ labour. Finch stated that while in the Labour Office applying for work, lie met an unknown man who said lie never did any work, hut got the money. Asked how, the man, told Finch to pul a friend’s name on a piece of paper and no inquiries would be, made. Finch filled in a application form with a false name; later returned the slip and received fourteen shillings. He was committed for sentence.

BOY DROWNED. TK KUJTTw March 23. A drowning accident occurred at the local swimming pool yesterday afternoon when Crism Minocheri (Yossland, aged ten. lost bis life. The boy was playing with a toy boat and fell into the water. He was drawn towards the weir, sucked under and became entangled in the grating. The body was recovered with some • difficulty about half an hour later. Artificial respiration was unavailing. AN INQUEST. CHRISTCHURCH. Match 23. The circumstances attached to the death of a fifteen year old girl in Christchurch Hospital, Queenio Dorothy Elizabeth Burley, have led to polite investigations, and an inquest was opened this morning and was adjourned for a post mortem. The girl’s mother said she had been working as a housemaid, and witness knew nothing of the girl's illness. WELL DRUNK. CHRISTCHURCH. March 23. For drunkenness, while in charge of a horse and cart, his forty-third offence, Charles Neil son. a labourer, was sentenced to a months hard labour.
