In an interview, Mr Ward said that from a prominent London financial expert. he learned that New Zealand's credit, had stood remarkably well in the face of if he world-wide depression of commodity prices, lie was reliably informed that there wa s not the slightest evidenee of extensive selling on -the part of investors of New Zealand securities on account or the earthquake. The decline in price was in a measure due to the marking flown on the Stock Exchange, which was tlie .sounding-board of world opinion, and which took notice of every factor affecting securities. Mr Ward travelled extensively over England, and paid particular attention to the industrial it teas.
