Gorton Homestead, of fourteen rooms, situated a ,ew miles from Cambridge, was totally destroyed by fire. The building was one of the oldest in the district, having been erected by Sir James Fergussou. a former owner of the Gorton Estate. Sir Charles Fergussou. late Govern-or-General. spent some years there as a hoy. The building was insured, hut the amount is unavailable.
