STEAM WITHOUT FUEL.
SUCCESSFUL TR TALS. PARTS, October 14. There seems ivo longer to b? any doubt that the scheme of M. Georges Claude, the French scientist, for obtaining steam without fuel by using the difference in temperature between the surface water and under-currents in tropical seas, is likely to furnish a new source of very cheap power. In two telegrams' which he despatched loom Cuba to the “Matin” yesterday M. Claude announced that he had now kept a. turbine running at 4000 revolutions a minute, using 10 kilowatts of power. He described this result as very satisfactory for a first trial, considering the small difference in temperature.
In his second telegram M. Claude announced that he was improving the installation for raising deep-sea. water so as to tap its immeasureable eneigy. He is confident, from the ohseira, tions already made, that his modest 10 kilowatts, obtained under poor condi-
ions and simply as the forerunner of nore powerful installations, afford a guarantee that human industry need j never perish for lack of power. j-
