MOTOR CRASH
RUNS INTO A VERANDAH,; AUCKLAND, Octoer 24. One man was ; seriously injured; and a woman and a mahf‘hurt, when a" motor ’car crashed ' into ~ a verandah post, outside the; shop of George Fowlds, Ltd., Queen .Street, shortly a.ter six o’clock, to-night. All were pedestrians. :'A small child was thrown out) of danger;by his mother,.his teddy,bear falling in the path of the car. Severe injuries to the.head were,',received by Stanley Fowler, married, aged 48,- of Htn-yEdenvy- ’He wan/tw ,inoved ; to' the f ; Hospital where hii’condition is serious. * Mrs E. of Rorifionby Rcihd, suffered minor cuts/to).her headland fane/ and a,-severe shaking. After-Te-ceiving medical attention, she > was able to proceed home. ’Her ' staalljon, aged about five years,. escaped, unhurt. Another man was bruised on the forehead and badly shaken, He was treated at .the ambulance .station, Several other pedestrians on th • footpath jumped out ,of the way of the enr, which was driven by George Walker. It turned’ out, of Fort Street into Queen Street, and owing to the safety zone just above the corner, the room is restricted. Therefore,, in swerving to avoid a pedestrian,-jfche vehicle crashed into the post and; partially mounted the footpath. Mrs.lrving, who was about to step off;, (the pavement, picked up ; her child ' and threw him out of danger. ~ Nonej of those injured, fiad timedp',jump clear and' were knocked dbwfi.“ 'The post was practically severed, the bumper of the vehicle being wound round it/The car, although damaged, was liter driven away.
