An immense, scene, , representing an Irish fair, was photographed and recorded from so many different angles that Producer John McCormick required over 900 people, capable of playing effectively 'before , both camera and. microphone, in order to represent properly this interesting portion of “Smiling Irish Eyes.” , Thun has the popularity of talking, pictures placed a larger premium on talent, and .all but eliminat-
ed the “extra?’ player incapable. a'< / giving interesting characterisations. K Colleen Moore is ideally suited for the role she portrays, in “'Smiling Irish Eyes,” jn which , sfie enacts a sparkling Irish ; girl. Both by personality and dramatic talent is she equipped fpr a realistic interpretation of this charming character, while she acquired a delightful brogue to make her portrayal all the ( more convincing. She botlV sings and talks ,in this Irish romance. Opposite Miss Moore in the male load is James Hall, whose engaging smile and excellent voice combine with splendid ability to make ihfi characterisation effective. Like Colleen, lie sings several' melodic in “Smiling-; Irish Eyes.” Two humorous portrayals contribute generously to the comedy of the picture, due to the excellent work of the actors in the parts, Claude- Gillingwater and Robert Homans. As two quarrelsome old Irishmen, thrpe excellent comedians provoke laughter whenever they apoear on the screen. Aggie Herring, , typically . Irish in appearance plays an old Irish 1 grandmother. Three short talkies and further chapters of 'the serial will also be shown.
