IMPORTED LABOUR

In view of ,a rumour to. the: that Messrs Cadbury, Fry, Hudson Ltd., were . about: to import factory labour from the Old Country, a , reporter interviewed Mr Sara, a director of the company, with the object of verifying or denying the statement. Air Sara’s denial was given in a. manner as emphatic as was possible. He said that in the early days of the rumour lie was inclined to treat the whole' thing as a joke, hut as weeks went by and still the story grew, it wase decided that the firm should post, in different parts of the factory, notices denying the matter. “It is all stuff and nonsense,” continued Mr Sara. “One of our strongest aims in being down here and associating with a local firm was to have am assurance that plenty of skilled labour would be available. It ha* never been. in' ora minds to import labour from the Old Country, a; d we hope to do all we can to absorb workers in New Zealand.” ' : ’ 1
