BOXING ASSOCIATION

By Telegraph—Per Press. Association. :-V ' ' f ; PALMERSTON; N., Aug. 22. At- the annual meeting of the New Zealand Boxing Association Earle 11. VVimsett presided. The annual report stated the standard of professional -boxing had been higher than usual, due mainly to the importation by major associations of high class boxers from jverseas. Replying to a question the Secretary dated Hawkes Bay Assn,, had been aned £5 for a breach of the rules relating to purses in connection with the dloom-Morgan fight. Reference was made to the fact that ;he verdict of the Appeal Committee regarding Reg Trowern’s appeal against lisqualification for six months appeared in the Auckland press before it had been conveyed to the Association. It vas-decided to draw the attention of die Appeal Committee to the rule that it shall not- communicate its decision with any person or body other the Council.

The question of the per centage of purses for professional contests was discussed at length, the following remit being moved on behalf of Otago in lieu of a stated purse, 75 per cent of net profits or such other per centage as. the Association in general %ieeting may agree upon, be substituted. Delegates pointed out that now a £30(1 purse which was allowed, the Associations were putting on the best contests. If the per centage system were adopted there would be no • hope of' smaller Associations putting on a big fight, until after the cities had tlie services of the best boxers. The remit was lost by 15 votes to four.

Talbot (Wellington) moved the following addition be made to the rule: — It shall be a breach of this rule to make a professional payment by way of training expenses, which in effect amounts to paying a bigger purse than provided in the rule. The resolution was carried by a large majority.
