Latest .cables how-; qver, report that the-’ market is somewhat easier and quiet, Messrs W; Weddel and Co. Ltd. cable that German buyers had been showing considerable interest in all Continental butters in view of the expected increase in tariff on the Ist August. However, .this increase has been indefinitely postponed, causing an easing on the part of the German buyers and a general weakening in the demand for all butters, They also . advise that upproxi- „ mutely 89,090 boxes of butter which the . trade,, expected to be . landed' m .Canada have been carried on to the United Kingdom and will be discharged there this month. Weather conditions on the Continent are now favourable to production. They, advise that they, expect a .low, market, and in their opinion there is more likely to be a gradual decline.in quotations than'an improvement-. ; ; .Cheese ;—Our - Principals cable us -that the: retail demand for New Zealand cheese is disappointing, and the bad weather has been, to some extent, responsible for the lack of demand. Canadian cheese has been freely offered and has the effect of weakening the market slightly. Our Principals do not anticipate any great improvement.
