The Federal Senate, by fourteen votes to four, in the early hours of the morning,, decided to request that a. statutory measure be introduced to provide for a reduction of ten per cent, in the salaries of the Ministers and the members of the Federal Parliament, and also of the members of the Public Service. , '■ The Prime Minister, Mr Scullin, in the House of Representatives this afaftermwm, announced that he could not accept, the Senate’s request. The - request, after a stormy debate, wns rejected by the House on the voices.

A conference was held between the Senate and the House of Representatives, and resulted in a compromise in regard to the contentions clauses of the Arbitration Bill.

The Income Tax Bill, prescribing the new rates in the Budget, passed all stages to-day at the Federal House of Representatives.
