THE WAY TO PROSPERITY.
Expressing the view that those living here at the present time should consider themselves as makers of Cainterbury, Mr John Deans, a grandson of one of the very earliest settlers of the province, ui-ged at the complimentary banquet to the Hon. G. W. Forbes on Saturday night, that greater suport should he given to the products of our own factories. That view, he added, might appear rather unusual for a farmer to express, hut lie thought that the secondary industries should be developed side by side with the primary industries. In that wav he considered, would prosperity bt> brought back to the Canterbury province whose foundations our forefathers had laid so wisely and well.
