MR LYSNAR, M.P.

TALKS, TO GISBORNE UN EAI PLOY EIL

(By Telegraph—-Per Press Association.)

GISBORNE,,, J illy 12

Reiterating his declaration in Parliament tha't there was plenty of work in country districts ’lor unemployed single men, Mr Lvsnar, AI.P., at a meeting of sixty of the, unemployed here to-day, said that while this was true, the farmers were in the position of having insufficient funds to make that work available'at the full rates of pay. He impressed on the men that it would he better for them to

meet the farmers and accept their work at what the farmers could afford to pay.

The meeting was openly hostile to many of Air Lysnar’s statements. The Mayor of Gisborne, Air Coleman, who presided, was unable to control the persistent flow of interjections. v

Air Dartou, the borough Engineer, spoke. He said that the Council had received splendid value from the relief works on which the Public Works Departmental officers had commented most favourably. “I have not had to sack one man on the relief works,” he added. “In fact, I can say that Gisborne has been quoted throughout New Zealand for the good value it has got from the relief works.”
