FURTHER QUAKE.
HAMILTON, June 14
While sitting at lunch at the Government Hostel about 1 o’clock to-day, various members of the Public Works staff, including Air F. AY. Furkert. Chief Government Engineei, remarked about what appeared to hr earth tremors. The comment was general amongst the diners that the shake, if it can he defined as such, was only momentary.
SERIES OF THEFTS
AUCKLAND, June 15
John Cornwall, aged 28, a motor driver, pleaded guilty to stealing goods worth £SO, the property of an unknown person, and also a gramophone worth £l6. Magistrate Hunt imposed sentences totalling 12 months. He said rhuse offences were very serious. The thefts had been going on steadily for three years.
SCHOOL HOLIDAYS. WELLINGTON, June 15
Tlie Council rtf Education approved Sir Thomas' Sidey’s suggestion that the main summer school holidays should he held in February and recommended that the matter he referred for consideration to the governing bodies of the Universities, secondary shools, technical schools, primary schools, and to the teachers’ associations, and that they be asked to communicate their views to the Council of duration so that the matter may he considered at the next meeting.
