WEST COAST BOWLING CENTRE.
ANNUAL MEETING.
MONDAY/FEB. 11th
The annual meeting of delegates of the West Coast Centre was held in the Westport pavilion at 8.20 p.m. There were present: Messrs James Ring President (Greymouth); P. Strothers (Westport); T. Halliday (Runanga) - T A. E. Benjamin (Hokitika). ■ Tlie minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman moved to place on record the Centre’s regret at the passing during the year of Messrs J. Rose (Westport), F. H. Kilgour and Capt. Ross (Greymouth). Carried in silence, members standing.
The Chairman referred to the issue oi a poster in conection with the tournament, which contained a number of inaccuracies. Air .Struthers explained the position and expressed regret at the contents objected to and the explanation was accepted, the matter then dropping. The balance-sheet showed receipts £36 18s 6d and expenditure £l3 15s 6d.
The credit balance to date is £7O 4s 9d, an improvement of £23 6s for the year.
In connection with a letter from the Grey Club of a year ago suggesting a reversion to the old date of holding the annual .meeting instead of at the time and place of the tournment, it was resolved not to take any action. Election of officers resulted as follows :
President: Mr Janies Ring (Greymouth), re-elected. Secretary and Treasurer : Mr A. A. Adams (Greymouth). Auditor: Mr J. Pearson (Greymouth ). Congratulations were extended to the. President on his ability to be again present, and his reelection was warmly endorsed by members.. . . . The- levy was ( fixed , for 'the year at the usual one of ninepence per .member. . ' . In connection with the tournament for 1931, the Reefton Club had .offered their green last year. Runanga also extended an invitation. . 1 ' Mr Strutliers moved that the Runanga offer be accepted, any overflow to be played, at Greymouth. Seconded by Mr Benjamin and carried. ; It was resolved that the conditions for next tournament be the same as those of 1929. ' .. .. The President reported that following statements made in regard to the Sergeant’s Hill green, lie had'personally''inspected’same, and a-meeting of the Tournament Committee had been held, at which he presided, when two representatives of Sergeant’s Hill Club were also present, It was gen* emlly agreed that the green not fit for tournament play at present and the former decision made on Thursday last of the Tournament Committee to cancel the play on the green and play all the- matches at Wesport was confirmed. Mr Benjamin' moved that the report be received and adopted.' He exprssed his regret that the decision to cancel the Sergeant’s Hill green had ben deferred til after the first draw had been announced; Mr Halliday seconded the motion and endorsed the .remarks made. The motion for the adoption of the report was agreed to. It was resolved that the meeting adjourned till a later day during the tOurney so as to deal with any further matters arising that required attention, including the champion of champions singles play. The meeting then adio-urned at 10.30 p.m. with a- vote of thanks to the Chairman for presiding.
FRIDAY, FEB. 14th,
The adjourned meeting was resumed at the pavilion at. 4 p.m. Present: Messrs Ring (Chairman), Struflhers, Halliday and Benjamin. The Chairman stated that no other business had arisen since meeting on Monday night. Mr Benjamin reported having made an inspection in company with Mr P. Struthers, of the Sergeant’s Hill green as requested and he gave his personal approval of the action of the Executive bn the previous week. The Chairman moved’ that the Centre place on record its appreciation of the manner in which the Tournament Committee had carried out the amended programme; its appreciation of the generous hospitality of the Ladies’ Committee, and the Westport Club; and also appreciation of the splendid condition of the by Mr Ha 11 id ay and carried unanimously. Mr Struthers briefly acknowledged the vote, and expressed the pleasure it had given the Westport Club to find all the visitors had enjoyed their visit.
Mr Ring stated he was leaving for Greymouth next morning and asked Mr Benjamin, on his behalf, to make the presentation of the Cup to the wipner of the Singles, on the conclusion of play, and to formally* hand the green back to the Westport Club. This concluded the business and the meeting adjourned.
