HOKITIKA SWIMMING CLUB

At a meeting of the Swimming Club held at the Baths last evening, there was a large attendance of members present.. Arrangements were made for the visit of the Australian champion swimmers—Messrs N. Ryan (champion distance swimmer of Australia), and 0. Griffiths (sprint champion of New South Wales). Both of these men have also broken the minute foi the TOO yards. They are due to appear in Hokitika on Boxing Night (the night of the faces). The terms of the visit are that the N.Z. Swimming Council derives 50% of the gross gate or £lO -—which ever is the greater. In view of this expense to the Club it was decided that any donations of trophies from the public would be very thankfully received. A programme of fourteen events was drawn up, included in which there will be a jockeys’ race and jockeys’ diving. These events were very popular last year. A letter was received from the Kanieri Tennis Club extending an invitation to the visiting swimmers to the dance at Kanieri on Boxing Night. —Received with thanks. Prices of admission to the Carnival were fixed, the same as last year, namely adults Is' Gd, children 6d. It was decided to have the programmes printed as soon as possible, so as to give competitors an idea of the distances. After several matters were discussed at length the meeting terminated at 9 p.m.
