WESTLAND POWER BOARD

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 10. A meeting of the Board was held at the County Chambers at 4.1(3 o’clock. Present: ’Messrs J. A. Murdoch (voted to the Chair), B. Ward, D. P. Stuart, F. Selby, E. A. Wells, T. W. Bruce, T. Ei. Chcsternian, It. Whiley. An apology was received for Ihe ausence or Air W. J. Butler i(Chairman). Mr J. S. Langford was jpiescin by invitation. The minutes of the previous meetings were confirmed and the outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Audit Office notifying fee due.—Received and passed for payment. From Alines Department regarding terminals of tho Kuinara. water race on the Teromakau river bed, and suggesting conference to determine the position.—Received. Tho Chairman advised no action in tho matter, and moved that the Board decline respectfully to attend. He pointed out the Board had purchased the entire lino of the race from the Government, and assigned the use of the race in good faith to the Westland Power Ltd. Air Ward seconded the motion, which was supported by other members, and carried. From same with regard to the water supply to the Kuinara Borough and detailing the general position bn the lines of a letter ..written to the Kuinara Borough Council.—Received. On tho motion of the Chairman, it was resolved to .acknowledge the receipt. of the Letter. 'Hie Chairman pointed out tho Kumara Council was free to act as advised. No doubt tho Westland Power Ltd. would act in the terms and spirit of the agreement. Mr Langford stated the Borough was receiving an amply sufficient volume of water at present.

Air Langford reported Westland Power Ltd. was arranging a contract for tho supply of electric power to the Hokitika Mental Hospital. The offer nnido had been accepted by. tlie Department and the correspondence was handed to tho Chairman. It was suggested the license to the Kanieri Electric Ltd. to supply the Mental Hospital should bo terminated. The Chairman did not approve of that course without further consideration. A general discussion ensued in which members expressed themselves in favour of the terminating of the license when the new contract with Westland Power Ltd. was completed. Mr Whiley moved in that direction, but the Chairman considered such a motion out of order, excepting upon notice of motion.

After further discussion by the members, it was resolved the meeting stand adjourned till 7.30 next Tuesday night to deal with the following notice of motion by Mr AVbil ey:—“That acting in conformity with the powers vested in the Board the license granted tho Kanieri Electric Ltd. to supply both the Hokitika Mental Hospital and the KanierlHokitika Sawmilling Coy. with electricity be terminated immediately upon the commencement of the supply of electricity by tlie Westland Power Ltd. to the Hokitika Mental Hospital in terms of the correspondence produced by the Manager of the Westland Power Ltd. to the Board. The meeting rose at 5 p.m.
