RABBIT SKIN SLUMP
DEALER’S OPINION. Speaking on the subject of the slump in the price of rabbitskins at the sales in Dunedin on Wednesday, when values eased by 30 to 50 per cent-., a Dunedin dealer said: “There is an accumulation of rabbitskins in London, some of the New Zealand consignments being included, but that accumulation does not by itself explain the drop here of from 30 to 50 Jicr cent. I ascribe it to the inability to bny, not a lessened desire for the skins. It is a bread and butter line, rabbitskins supplying the cheapest fur in the world, and if it be the case, as I imagine it is, that the buying has eased off because people haven’t got the money, the argument is that as soon as they can command the means they will rush back to the cheaper sealskins, ine further the pendulum swings back the quicker will be its swing forward. “Everything offered in Dunedin on Wednesday was sold at prices that tempted wary ‘bears’ to come in for a profit when the recovery comes about.”
