N.Z. MEAT BOARD

A STRONG. DENUNCIATION. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) HAWERA, December 5. “ The Meat Export Board is simple an octopus, feeding upon the farmers, it collects a lot ol' money, but it does little beyond a small amount of advertising.” This statement was made by Mr C. D. Dickie, Chairman of the Pi, tea Freezing Coy., and a member of the South Taranaki Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union, when speaking at a meeting ol that body this morning. “The Board is rm by a few Canterbury slleep farmers and the Canteibury A. and P. Association,” be added. “It has an office in Wellington, which serves but little purpose beyond the issue of a lew statistics that are valueless to the producers here, but which might possibly be of some interest to the Home buyers. Hie Hoard is not in touch with the meat producers’ interests as is the Dairy Board with the dairy tanners’ matters, and the Meat Board’s constitution seems only a good opportunity for a lew to draw big salaries and lees out of the 635,000 the--Board reyeives in levies.” Mr Dickie said the Meat Board had purchased a site for cool stores in a useless position, on the wrong side ol the Thames, an amount of 630,000 baling been squandered upon it. There was an expensive office at home, which sent over a few cables containing information that could 'he obtained from the blackboards at the Smithfield markets any Friday. He had made a study of the Board’s activities during his recent trip home. He based his comments upon his observations. Mr Dickie moved a resolution that the Executive was opposed to the formation of a Wool Board along the lines of the Meat Board, as suggested by the Farmers’ Unions’ DominionExecutive. 1 The motion was carried unanimously.
