ATHLETE HURT

A BLASTING ACCIDENT. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association ) CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 5. A blasting accident occurred on the Summit Road works this afternoon. A plug of gelignite exploded prematurely, and H. Yeatman, a married man, and a well-knoivn athlete, was seriously injured. He was the head man of a co-operative gang of men employed by the Government on relief work. He was experienced in the use of explosives. Apparently he used a short length of fuse, which fired while he was pumping the charge and the fuse into the hole. The charge fired, and drove the tamping rod through his forearm, also injuring his face. There have been two previous fatal blasting accidents within recent months on the Summit Road works.
