The following advice has been received by the Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department from Apia by radio: —An explosion occurred aboard the American scientific yacht “Carnegie” at 1 p.m. to-day. The ship burst into Humes. She is a total loss. Five of the ship’s company were injured and were taken to the hospital, ft is r believed that Captain Ault has since ' died.

, SEVERAL LIVES' LOST. (By Radio—Special to Press Assn.) APIA, Nov. 30. The “'Carnegie” was burned to the, water’s edge. Only cash and records were saved. The 'ship’s' articles and everything else was lost.' She was filling her tanks with 200 gallons of benzine on board all the morning. On Friday, resuming at 1 p.m., the hose was connected and petrol was flowing into the tank, when suddenly a terrific explosion occurred. Five of the crew employed were injured, one being blown into the sea. Capt. Ault was sitting in a deck chair twenty feet away, reading, and was blown into the sen and died on the way to the hospital. A galley hoy named Kolar, who was below in the after galley, is missing and is believed to be burned to death. The chief engineer, mechanic, and three seamen were injured. The engineer and mechanic are seriously burnd on the arms and face. None were seen smoking. At an inquest this morning on Capt. Ault a verdict that he died ol shock was returned.
