LIGHTNING DAMAGE
STORM AT CHRISTCHURCH
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, November 29. A sharp thunderstorm passed over Christchurch to-day with much-needed heavy rain. The lightning struck a tall poplar growing on the river bank at Oxford Terrace, and split the trunk for a distance of about fifteen feet, and burst off large splinters up to four feet in length. A horse and dray, with the driver, were standing under the tree when it was blasted, but neither the driver nor the horse was injured, although the falling wood dropped all round. The tree will have to be removed, as it is now dangerous.
