NEW YORK, Nov. 29. James Pauley, of Chicago, aged 54 years, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Miami Coal Company, and a leading figure in the fuel busi-
ness of the United States, shot his wife And then committed,suicide, It was ah amazing tragedy, They were a wealthy couple, and they had been ‘ : iiivitod to a thnnksgiving dinner at the horns of a millionaire': friend, William Bode, who waited an extra hour ,fof them, arid then'went to fetch them frppx, their apartments at the AmbassadoV Hotel, Bode discovered Mrs • Pauley dead in a chair. She had ‘ dresed for dinner, and had sat down and begun working' out a cross-word ' puzzle, when she was shot through the temple. Her husband then'apparently, stepped back into the bathroom and suicided' in the same manner. He was known as the champion strike settler. There is no known motive for the tragedy.
