Farmers in New Zealand own at least 40,521 motor vehicles, according to a return tabled in the House of Representatives. Of that number 36,132 are cars and 4389 are trucks. The figures represent the number of vehicles licensed during the year 1929-30 by persons who describe ’themselves as fanners, agriculturists, breeders, dairy farmers, orchardists, market gardeners, poultry farmers, apiarists, graziers, horticulturists and settlers. The return is incomplete, because it does not « include all vehicles. owned by farmers. For the reason that a large number o f registrations are .in the names of women, who have described their occupations as domestic duties, it is impossible to say how many vehicles are registered by farmers’ wives, '
