By Telegraph—Press Association). N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS. WANGANUI, September 26. The 1929 New Zealand Golf Championship meeting opens on the Belmont Course to-morrow. After a spell of fine weather, there was heavy rain this afternoon. If this ceases to-night, the course will be benefited by the fain, and should be in first class order. All the competitors have arrived and there will be a very classy field engaged. \ The usual practice rounds have been indulged in' and good form has been shown by many of the -competitors. The Open Championship is considered to be very open, there is no pronounced favourite. N.Z. LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIPS. YESTERDAY’S RESULTS. CHRISTCHURCH, September 26. The New Zealand Ladies’ Golf Championship meeting opened at Shirley Links to-day. The weather was fine but overcast, and this evening rain fell. A little rain would improve the links, which, however, are in splendid order. The prospects for fine weather to-morrow are not good. The first event, the Inter-Island teams match, was drawn, each team winning , four matches. Following are the results, jvith the North Island names mentioned first: — Miss Culling lost to Miss Chrystall 7 and 5. Miss Payton lost to Mrs Dodgsliun 7 and 5. Mrs Weston lost to Miss Kay 3 and 2. Miss Garsford beat Mrs McCarthy 2 up. Mrs Collinson beat Mrs Stevens 4 and 3. Mrs Williams beat Miss Aeheson 3 and 1. Mrs Foreman lost to Miss Beadel 8 and 7. Miss‘Snodgrass beat Miss Pringle 3 and 2. FOURSOMES. In the championship foursomes match,-the leading cards were:— Miss Payton and Miss Kay 83. Mrs Dodgshun and Mrs McCarthy 85. 1 Mrs Williams and Miss Garsford 88.' .Miss Chrystall and Miss Culling’ 89. In the handicap foursomes, the best cards were:—
