DARING ESCAPE FROM LOCK-UP

A daring escapp from the Katoomba lock-up was effected last night by Alveret Zevindeg; who was being held on charges connected with robberies in the Blue Mountains. The man rushed ac Constable Archei; when the later took him his meal, and struck • the policeman a violent blow, knocking him unconscious. Zevindeg then looked Archer in the cell and escaped.

As a result of a fiendish attack by, a man with a bootmakers’ knife, Mrs Alice Smith is in the hospital in a criti al condition. Seventy stitches have been inserted in o the wounds in her throat and face. Frank Ryan ihas been charged with wounding her with intent to murder. Mrs Smith was buying articles from the man when he grabbed her purse. She fought with iiimp'then the knife was drawn and the woman was badly slashed.
