Francis, finger-print expert attached to the Police Department’s headquarters in Wellignton, gave evidence in the Supreme Court at Christchurch on Wednesday. On July 3 last Mr Francis received an empty bottle bearing traces of finger-prints. Two days later he received from Paparu n Prison a man’s finger-prints on a form used in the prison. He photograph© 1 the finger-prints on the bottle, and made an enlargement olf them, and of those on the form. The enlargements he produced in Court. He marked twenty-four points of similarity. “ I am satisfied beyond all doubts,” he said, “that the finger-prints on the boule and on the form were made by the same person. No two finger-prints in the world are alike; but, to get it down, to a. mathematical proposition we say that in every five sheets we examine we may find two points of similarity, although we have never found two points of' similarity. Tlip odds in respect to getting three points of similarity are 125 to 1; four points, 625 to 1. When you got down tp twenty-four points, the chances against similarity between two different persons are over fifty-nine thousand billions to one. As the population olf the world is about 1,603,000,000, the chances of similarity are practically nothing.” i “ Nazol ” is a famous remedy for coughs and colds, because it has been long proved to give instant relief m the most stubborn cnsea All chemists -Ad 4,
