PREMIERS CONFER. (Australian Press Association). SYDNEY, • May 24. A preliminary gathering of Premiers of all States took place in Sydney today, prior to attending a Conference at Canberra next week. They announce various important decisions. It was decided to urge the Commonwealth Government to impose an excise duty on petrol arriving in Australia, the proceeds to be distributed among States in proportion to the petrol used in each instance. A question compelling small coastal vessels engaged wholly in domestic trado in any particular State to use wireless, was considered, and the States concerned are to he asked to formulate suggestions. It was resolved that steps he taken to transfer to the Commonwealth certain uniform powers in regard to tho control of aviation.
