Mrs Johnstone said that she was so grieved and distresses about the matter that it had made her quite ill, and she was sure the man was very sorry, and she Imped the ■magistrate would deal leniently with him. Jeffreys told the magistrate that whilst in prison, on remand, he had bitterly repented his disgusting conduct. Detective Dennis said the man’s one fault was that he could not speak the truth. Jeffreys was placed on probation.
