THE REGISTRATION OF MOTOR-CARS
PRESENT SYSTEM CONDEMNED.
NAPIER, May 9
The present system of numbering motor-cars by changing the plates each year was condemned as an absolute waste of money bv a County Council deputation which met the Prime Minister this morning, and it was added that the inconvenience and annoyance caused to motorists were not justified. The deputation 11 i gc-d the wisdom of adopting the English system of registration, which, it was contended, would give greater satisfaction. There was a deal to say on both sides, said Sir Joseph Ward. Recently the motor trade interests had said that, it was their considered opinion that our present system of registration was the liest in the world. “I was against the present system myself,” he said, “but what those men said was an eye-opener to me. However. the whole matter will receive close scrutiny.”
