FURTHER PARTICULARS

WAIROA, May 9

Further particulars of the Tuai golf accident show that the deceased hoy Valentine Green, aged 19, was struck with a golf club, and not with a ball, by Mrs McGarry, a powerfully built woman, who, in making a drive’, failed to notice tliat the lad was nearby, .and caught him behind the ear. The victim fell, saying: “It got me, dad!” He expired immediately. An inquest will be held .this evening. THE INQUEST. YVAIROA, May 9. At tho inquest concerning the tragic death at Tuai of Valentine William Neville Green, the evidence showed that Mrs McGarry had borrowed a new golf club from a schoolboy who was passing, and practised hitting. After several hits, she swung the .midiron back, not knowing that tho de-ecasc-d was standing behind. The first she knew was Green exclaiming: “You’ve knocked me out!” He walked a couple of paces, gasped, and sank to the ground, dying immediately. The deceased was hit on the carotid, artery on tho left side of the neck. A verdict ,of accidental death was returned, no blame being attachable to Mrs McGarry, with whom the Coroner and jury expressed their sympathy, as also with the parents of the toy.
