PALMERSTON N., April 18

Official instructions for the suspension of all work with the exception of that necessary to leave everything in a satisfactory condition was received at the railway deviation works early this morning. The steam shovels stopped and construction work ceased immediately. Inquiries were instigated to ascertain which men were willing to transfer to other undertakings. The first batch is expected to leave for Gisborne on Alondav.
